Dr. Cadavious M. Jones was honored to serve as the keynote speaker for Albany State University’s 14th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, hosted by the Center for Transformational Student Experiences. The symposium’s theme, “Artificial Intelligence and the Transformation of Research,” provided a timely opportunity for Dr. Jones to speak with students, faculty, and academic leaders about how AI was reshaping scholarship, discovery, and the future of human thought.
His keynote address, “AI, Research, and the Future of Thinking,” focused on both the opportunities and responsibilities that came with emerging technologies. Dr. Jones discussed how artificial intelligence could expand access to knowledge, accelerate research, and support new forms of innovation. At the same time, he emphasized that AI could not replace critical thinking, ethical judgment, creativity, or the disciplined work required of serious researchers.

Later in the day, Dr. Jones continued the conversation through a workshop titled “AI, Research, and the Future of Thinking in a Secure World: Cybersecurity.” The session examined AI through the lens of cybersecurity, including the importance of data protection, digital trust, responsible technology use, and preparing students to navigate a world where innovation and security had to move together.
As Dean of the Division of Science and Mathematics at Rust College, Dr. Jones’ work centered on expanding STEM opportunities, strengthening undergraduate research, and preparing students for the technological demands of the future. His keynote and workshop aligned closely with that mission by encouraging students not only to use emerging tools, but also to question them, evaluate them, secure them, and apply them with purpose.
Dr. Jones extended his appreciation to Albany State University, Dr. Nora Osakwe, the Center for Transformational Student Experiences, and all of the student researchers, faculty mentors, and organizers who made the symposium a meaningful celebration of inquiry and innovation. His participation reflected a continued commitment to advancing student research, responsible AI engagement, cybersecurity awareness, and the future of knowledge in higher education.
