Dr. Cadavious Jones Leads Rust College's Rural AgriTech Program to Secure Delta Workforce Grant

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Cadavious Jones, Dean of the Division of Science and Mathematics at Rust College, the Rural AgriTech Program has achieved a significant milestone by securing funding from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) through the 2023 Delta Workforce Grant. This initiative, focusing on training students in botany, plant pathology, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV/UAS) utilization, addresses critical needs in agricultural innovation and workforce development.

The awarded grant, totaling $254,917.00, underscores the program's commitment to enhancing agricultural practices for farmers of color and tackling the growing pilot shortage through UAV technology. By integrating UAVs with the study of native Mississippi plants, the program aims to pioneer economic development strategies and foster sustainable agricultural solutions. This endeavor aligns closely with the DRA's mission to improve workforce competitiveness, strengthen infrastructure, and build community capacity.

"This program represents the intersectionality of education, innovation, and community partnership," remarked Dr. Cadavious Jones, Principal Investigator of the project. "It's about empowering our students with cutting-edge skills while making a tangible impact on local agricultural communities."

Dr. Jiaqian Zhu, Senior Personnel, and other members of the Rust College community will collaborate closely with Dr. Jones to ensure the program's success. Together, they aim to establish enduring public-private partnerships and cultivate a robust talent pipeline equipped to meet the challenges of 21st-century agriculture.

The Rural AgriTech Program at Rust College stands as a beacon of innovation and inclusivity, exemplifying Dr. Cadavious Jones' commitment to advancing educational excellence and community empowerment through interdisciplinary initiatives.
