Under the guidance of Dr. Cadavious Jones, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics at Alabama State University, the B.E.S.T. (Boosting Engineering, Science & Technology) Competition Practice Day launched at East Dale Mall. Dr. Jones, serving as director of the Montgomery B.E.S.T. Robotics Competition, oversaw an event where teams converged to test and refine their robotic creations.

Throughout the practice sessions, Dr. Jones observed teams grappling with technical challenges, offering guidance as they prepared for the regional competition at Montgomery Multiplex on November 6. "Teams tackled hurdles, from traction issues on practice mats to fine-tuning robotic designs," noted Dr. Jones, emphasizing meticulous preparation for success.
Beyond technical prowess, Dr. Jones highlighted creative ingenuity displayed by teams, noting how some drew inspiration from automotive engineering for robot designs. "It's impressive to see students integrate steering mechanisms and control systems," remarked Dr. Jones, reflecting on diverse approaches teams adopted to meet competition requirements.
As the competition nears, Dr. Jones emphasized community support, inviting volunteers to contribute as judges, event personnel, or mentors for teams. Interested individuals can sign up at https://signup.com/go/NUwnOhd to ensure a successful event.
"With the competition around the corner, we rely on volunteers and judges to inspire and guide young innovators," stressed Dr. Jones. "Their dedication plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of STEM leaders."
Anticipation builds for the regional competition, with Dr. Cadavious Jones driving enthusiasm and fostering innovation among B.E.S.T. Robotics participants.
