Rust College's STEM & Shipbuilding Program

Rust College, Mississippi's oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU), continues to expand its commitment to STEM education with enhanced support for students in critical disciplines like shipbuilding. Central to this initiative is the leadership of Dr. Cadavious Jones, whose role in securing funding has been instrumental.

The Division of Science and Mathematics at Rust College has recently received increased funding aimed at bolstering STEM-related programs. This initiative aims to empower community college transfer students pursuing STEM majors by addressing financial barriers. Specifically, Rust College has launched a scholarship program designed to provide substantial support:

  • Scholarship Details: Rust College offers scholarships to community college graduate transfers with demonstrated financial need.

  • Allocation: Scholarships are awarded annually to support two students consecutively over two years.

  • Continued Eligibility: Requires full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress.

Dr. Cadavious Jones, in his leadership capacity, has been pivotal in advocating for and securing these resources, ensuring that Rust College remains at the forefront of STEM education and workforce development. Under his guidance, the college not only awards scholarships but also provides ongoing support to ensure the success of scholarship recipients.

This initiative underscores Rust College's commitment to fostering the next generation of STEM professionals, particularly in industries vital to Mississippi's economy, such as shipbuilding.

Dr. Cadavious Jones continues to champion initiatives that align educational opportunities with workforce demands, ensuring that Rust College students are well-prepared for success in their chosen STEM fields.
